After receiving great reviews for his 2017 debut release, Intriguant revisits Recluse and curates a remix release that features contributions from a stellar list of Asian producers and beatmakers. Recluse Remixed boasts all 10 tracks from the original release. Intriguant’s signature cinematic beatscapes underwent some flips and twists by the likes of Daisuke Tanabe, Fauxe, Yllis, Safuan Johari, Kiat, Young Spice, Night Dives, Perk Pietrek, Fujimoto Tetsuro & similarobjects.
Released August 30, 2018
Intriguant is back to drop his second single, “Turn”, off his debut album, Recluse, which was released earlier this year. A song which features singer/songwriter, Charlie Lim, on vocals, this music video is a collaborative effort by Australian-based multimedia artists and illustrators, Sam Shields and Ziegfried H Nissen.
This video merges two approaches of illustrative animations by each artist. Nissen’s spacious and clean style is offset by a scattered lo-fi approach by Shields. Spurred by the song’s dark lyrical content and intricate sonic textures, the characters – representations of Intriguant and Lim – are put through many situations and forms, visually capturing the fleeting feeling of life flashing by. Clocks, entropy and collapse are just some visual cues found to visually manifest the themes that are weaved into the delicate fabric of the auditory collaboration between Intriguant and Lim.

ABOUT THE CREATORS
Intriguant (real name Louis Quek) is a Singapore-based electronic music producer and DJ. Inspired by the human perception of environments, he mixes together textural sounds with syncopated beats which results in the alignment of the physical with the spiritual. This is evident in his debut EP, Ellipse, which was released on the Syndicate imprint in 2014.
Ellipse gathered the attention of music critics spanning from Israel, Slovakia and the United States. For the title track and lead single, the producer collaborated with visualist and label-mate, Brandon Tay, to produce a visually entrancing music video that was subsequently featured on New York based magazine, The Fader.
His music is a collection of downtempo and fragile beats that covers a wide spectrum of influences and genres that include electronica, experimental, soul and hip hop. He has shared the decks with luminaries such as Thomas Schumacher, Teebs, Flying Lotus, Homeboy Sandman and Om Unit. He has also played at festivals such as the St Jeromeʼs Laneway Festival and Singapore International Jazz Festival.
Sam Shields os a multi-media artist and creator based in Sydney, Australia.
His eclectic body of work explores areas as diverse as illustration, painting, murals, videography and design: Sam keeps himself busy, remaining constantly active across several visual media and even music. Ziegfried H Nissen is a very talented illustrator and animator based in Western Australia.
