Once a rural district, Tampines used to be wild and untamed with tigers prowling about, who would carry off calves from its farmlands. Now, it has evolved into an urban planning success story, lush with a community spirit that supports over 258,000 residents.
“Tigers in Tampines” is a music project that sends 8 music artists to compose original tracks inspired by the people, the stories and surroundings of Tampines. The artists gathered audio content from around the neighbourhood, like snippets of chatter by residents and other ambient sounds to create their own inspired piece of music. These new tracks will be featured in a pop-up music stage nestled within your neighbourhood.
In addition to the performances, one can also look forward to creative workshops held that day. These include experimental noise music-making sessions for kids using fruits as well as workshops on stencilling art and a live mural jam. For those who are poetic at heart, there will also be a session on lyrics writing. In bringing contemporary electronic music and arts to the neighbourhood, both performers and residents will have a chance to explore what Tampines means to them whilst creating future memories from in the present.
A commission by National Arts Council’s Arts In Your Neighbourhood, in collaboration with Hear65.
